Cathay Pacific: Complete Baggage Policy & Allowance Info

These prices apply to clients who have purchased a reserved seat on one of their most popular flight itineraries.

Types of Baggage Allowance:  Cathay Pacific

Cabin Baggage Allowance

Customers who have a confirmed seat may bring one bag that fits in the overhead compartment and is no larger than 56cm x 36cm x 23cm (22in x 14in x 9in). Wheels handle and side compartments are all included in these measurements. Cathay pacific baggage allowance:

  • Economy: 1 small item + 1 piece, 7 kg/15 pounds
  • Premium Economy: 1 small item + 1 piece, 7 kg/15 pounds
  • Business: 1 small item + 1 piece, 22 lbs/10 kilogramme
  • First: 1 piece + 1 small item, 15 kilogramme / 33 pound.

Check-in Baggage Allowance

  • Flights to the Americas and Auckland/Christchurch are the only exceptions.
  • While the total weight should be under your regular weight limits, please keep in mind that the number of components you can check in is limited.

  • Economy: 30kg (66lbs) (Maximum 2 pieces)

Extra Luggage Charges Info

  • You will be charged USD 150 for any component that is overweight.
  • This is true for each bag that exceeds your flight class's weight limit. Each piece must not exceed 32kg / 70lbs in weight. This applies to flights in Economy and Premium Economy.
  • You should anticipate paying four times your extra bag price per piece if your parts exceed your flight class weight allowance.
  • You will be charged USD 150 for each oversized item.
  • An oversized piece of baggage has a total dimension of between 158cm / 62in and 203cm / 80in. The total size of your bag is the sum of its width, height, and length.

Music Instruments as a Baggage

Depending on the size and shape of your musical instruments, you can travel with them as checked baggage, carry-on baggage, or cabin-seat baggage.

Hand Baggage

As part of your hand baggage allowance, you can bring small musical instruments (such as flutes or violins) onto the plane. Please keep them in a hard case that can be placed safely inside the overhead locker.

The dimensions of a hand-carry musical instrument, including the case, must not exceed 93 x 39 x 24cm or 36 x 15 x 9in (height, breadth, and depth) for all traveling classes.

Large musical instruments, such as a guitar or cello, must be checked if they exceed the stated limits or the cabin baggage allowance. Please be advised that check-in baggage has weight and dimension restrictions. The instrument's protective casing is one of them.

Sporting Goods as a Baggage

If you need to travel with sports equipment, such as skis or a skateboard, please review their policies, which vary based on the route you select.

When flying to or via America, your luggage is counted in pieces with weight limits per piece.
Regardless of their actual measurements, the following items count as one "piece" (158 cm / 62 in total dimensions):

  • A single sleeping bag or a bedroll.
  • One backpack, rucksack, or knapsack.
  • One set of snow skis, one set of ski poles, and one pair of ski boots

Please inform Baggage Service Counter employees of your damaged bags and file a report. The Baggage Service desk is located in the airport's Arrival Hall, right before customs clearance.

On the phone

We'll assist you in filing a damaged baggage report if you call the Baggage Service hotline. You must report any damage to your luggage within seven days of receiving it.

Mobility Assistance on Cathay Pacific

  • For Cathay Pacific passengers who require it, a wheelchair service with an attendant is available. The attendant will assist you in getting around the airport and to your gate or plane door (depending on the airport facilities).
  • An inflight wheelchair and aisle seats with movable armrests are provided if you require assistance traveling between your seat and the aircraft entrance or lavatory door inside the cabin.
  • If you have a group of ten or more persons who use wheelchairs, Please contact the local reservations office at least 48 hours prior to your Cathay Pacific flight's scheduled departure.

Taking your own wheelchair on a trip

Passengers with disabilities are allowed to bring their own manual or battery-powered wheelchairs to the departure gate and, if airport facilities allow, to the aircraft door.
