What happens in case I miss my flight because of a delay? 

There is no doubt that missing a connecting flight is indeed a nightmare. Especially if your booking was for a long-haul flight, you could miss the flight due to your fault for reaching the airport late, or you might miss the flight due to the delay from the airline. If there was a delay from the side of the airline, then you must know the conditions which can make you eligible for Compensation under the EC 261 regulation. What does missed connection compensation mean? 

First, you need to know about connecting flights to understand the missed connection compensation. Connecting flights are those in which you have several stops between your departure place and the destination. At every visit, you need to change your flight. That means due to some reasons if you have missed your flight. Then you're going to get the missed flight compensation. However, you'll be eligible for this Compensation only if the reason for missing the flight was entirely under the airline's control. 

Who will be eligible for missed flight compensation?

If you have missed your flight, you can claim compensation for it. However, there are several conditions that you need to satisfy before you apply for Compensation. Once you're eligible to get the Compensation, you can certainly use it.

Conditions for the eligibility of the Compensation:

• If you have missed your connection due to overbooking, flight delta, or flight cancellation. 
• Your flight was over three hours late, due to which you missed your flight. 
• If your connecting flight was a part of the same reservation, it was not purchased individually. 
• The reason you missed your flight was actually under the airline's control. For example - a strike by the airlines' staff, or there was some technical issue. 
• You went through the abovementioned problems on a flight operated less than three years ago. 
• Whether the airline has provided you with a replacement flight doesn't make any difference.

How much Compensation can you claim for missed flights?

The law regulates the compensation amount. That means your Compensation is going to be decided under EC 261. According to this law, if you have missed your flight because of the flight delay or cancellation, or if you were denied boarding the flight, you will get Compensation of 250 Euros to 600 Euros. 

Compensation based on length of the day:

• If the booking was delayed for three hours, you will not get Compensation. 
• If your flight was delayed by the airline for three to four hours, you would get Compensation for 250 Euros. 
• If your flight was going to cover over 1500 KM, then for the delay of over three hours, you will get the Compensation of 400 Euros. 
• For flights between 1500KM to 3500KM, you will get the Compensation of 400 Euros if the delay is more than four hours. 
• For flights which are going to cover over 3500KM distance. For that, you're going to get the Compensation of 600 Euros. 

To claim Compensation for a missed connection, you must ensure that you have filled out the form for Compensation on the official website of the airlines you selected. Make sure that you have filled in the state of the Compensation within twenty-four hours of the missed flight incident.
